The WorkBench

Some customers request work that just shouldn't be done. This Harmony hollowbody had its side mounted jack ripped out.

Sometime after, a top mounted jack was added which would be adequate for most players. Despite its $100.00 or so value, the owner wanted the damaged side area patched.

The side area was removed and its surfaces smoothed.

A new maple side piece was cut to fit the cutout.

After steaming, the maple was pliable enough to bend into place.

This isn't an attempt to show off my clamp collection.. I really needed everyone of these to secure the patch while the glue set up.

As the clamps came off a orbital sander brought the patch in flush with the existing surfaces.

After a few coats of red the spliced edges were shot with a black burst to hide the transition...

...and then the entire area finished off in clear gloss.
